Update: The UMass Lowell Coburn Hall Addition and Renovation started with early phase work including salvaging of existing millwork and artifacts, site work, selective demolition and full abatement of the building. The Project Team issued Construction Documents and bidding and GMP negotiation occurred in August. Upon successful execution of a GMP, the project construction proceeded full bore with foundations for the new addition and steel shop drawings to get the steel into production.

Description: Coburn Hall is a 100-year old structure which was one of the first buildings on the UMass Lowell Campus. It is a 60,000 sq ft, 4-story, masonry and timber framed building with several historic details which are to be preserved. The project will include a complete renovation of the existing building including some significant re-structuring and seismic reinforcement. The project also includes a 14,000 sq ft addition which will be a steel frame structure clad in curtainwall, metal panels, and fiber cement panels. The new layout will house classrooms, offices, an event space, and miscellaneous collaboration spaces.
