Compass Supports Women Build | Habitat for HumanityCategory: Company Updates
Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week is an annual weeklong event created by Habitat’s Women Build program in partnership with Lowe’s. The program invites women to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing. The week is meant to spotlight the homeownership challenges faced by women.
On Thursday, May 4, Compass ladies joined with the Colantonio ladies team – Colantonio Crushers – for Women Build Week 2017!
Our Team spent the day with members of Habitat for Humanity helping to build 2 new homes in Holliston. Our team was extremely productive as we prepared the attic for insulation and flooring hoisting over 30 8’x6’ plywood pieces to the attic along with over 100 8’x2’ foam insulation sections; prepared window frames with insulation and tape for installation of the windows when they arrived; measured and marked the outside of the house for installation of shingles; built corner sections with 2x4s to be used for installing the drywall; cut angles on 2x6s to install as supports; moved over 100 2x4s and 2x6s into the house for the next team to start framing the walls and much more! It was a fun and exhausting day but most importantly, it was day spent helping others in need. We all walked away with a great feeling of accomplishment.
Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities. Though our neighborhoods are comprised largely of women and children, they are also the population’s most likely to be affected by poor living conditions. Our Women Build events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities.Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message.
